Past Fundraising Projects for Scholarships (2016-2024)
July Socials
Starting in July 2016 an innovative team consisting of Heli Vail, Heather Chambers, and Diane Wallace organized four summer scholarship fundraisers greatly enjoyed by members. menu gifts money raised
On July 22, 2016 we celebrated Christmas in Heli’s garden, exchanged gifts, and enjoyed each others’ company.
On July 24, 20017, Heli and her team planned a
scholarship fundraiser “full of fellowship and
fabulous frivolity.” This was an ice cream social
enjoyed by all.
A summer tea party on Diane Wallace’s front lawn
once again raised funds for scholarships. CFUW
through the decades and members chose a decade
and dressed themselves accordingly.
Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir and North Bay Youth Orchestra
On May 4, 2019, CFUW North Bay joined local Grandmothers for Africa in bringing to North Bay a concert by the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir at St. Andrew’s Church. Proceeds from the concert were shared equally by CFUW North Bay for our scholarship fund and for Grandmothers.
Member-Only July 2021 Garden Tour
This fundraiser for scholarships featured four of our members’
gardens: Bonnie Cappadocia’s, Gail Thomsen’s, Sue Carr’s,
and Caroline Haist’s. The tour was a chance for members to say goodbye to long-time member Bunty Swanson.
It was as well attended in spite of the rain.

Paint Morning
On March 3, 2021, local artist Marianne Vander Dussen guided members who signed up for this fundraiser and paid $45 through the process of producing their masterpieces, two of which are shown below.
Women2Women Networking Event at Nipissing University Student Union
The March 9, 2023, networking event described on the poster (above) raised money for CFUW North Bay without requiring our members to do anything except attend. Money raised through the $10 entrance fees and silent auction was divided equally between our club and Amelia Rising. Kaarina Tulisalo and her display advertising CFUW North Bay are pictured in the photo to the right of the poster.
Members who attended were given the opportunity to meet Kennedy Bond, the first winner of the Diana Walton scholarship. She is pictured above with Nat Brunette, president at the time.
Downtown Walk and Teddy Bears Picnic
The main fundraiser for 2023 on July 25, consisted of a walk downtown to visit a number of local businesses and a picnic complete with teddy bears at the gazebo at our waterfront. It did require a lot of work, mainly by the scholarship fundraising committee shown in the last of the four photos below: Diane Wallace, Heather Chambers, Heli Vail, Terry Blair, and Marianne Rogers (away at the time). These ladies plannied the event and prepared and served a healthy lunch for those who attended. Members who participated made donations to the scholarship fund for amounts of their choice.
The first photo pictures Amber Livingstone, DIA Executive Director, who gave us an overview of the businesses members would visit. The walk was organized as a way of supporting North Bay’s downtown.
“Stone” Salad Picnic
In 2024 once again the main fundraiser for scholarships took place in the summer on July 24, a picnic at the home of Diane Wallace. Heli Vail, Diane Wallace, and HeatherChambers, the organizers of this fundraiser (top left photo), serve “stone” salad. The event raised $1400 for the scholarship fund.
Heather Stemp, our guest speaker (below) spoke about the latest of her three books, Beyond Amelia.
