Canadore College
Local Secondary Schools (on a rotating basis)
CFUWNB Secondary School Scholarship is awarded to a deserving female student who demonstrates academic proficiency and who is a graduate of one of the North Bay Secondary Schools, and who is proceeding to Nipissing University or Canadore College.
Our scholarship fund provides scholarships and bursaries for local females attending Nipissing University, Canadore College, and local secondary schools. This page provides details about these scholarships and bursaries funded by the members of the club. Members donate annually to the scholarship fund and hold fundraisers often involving other partners and members of the North Bay community.
In addition to these annual scholarships and bursaries, in 2022 our club received the funds for a new scholarship. Mr. William Walton donated $15,000 in memory of his wife Dr. Diana Walton, who was on the faculty of Nipissing University. As a result of this generous donation, for the next fifteen years beginning the fall of 2022, CFUW will be presenting a worthy recipient attending Nipissing University with a $1000 scholarship.
Below are some letters of appreciation both from Nipissing University and Canadore College and from women who received the scholarships. Dr Kevin Wamsley, president and vice-chancellor of Nipissing University, wrote the one but asked that only the body of the letter be shared.
The letter directly below is from Kennedy Bond, the first recipient of the Dr. Diana Walton Scholarship.
The names of scholarship winners are recorded every year in the report that the scholarship committee chair submits at the end of the year. You can read these reports by going to the Information for Members tab of the menu bar and clicking on one of the annual reports links.
